The filter, in order
- The house load, from a recognized method such as CSA F280-12, at the local design temperature. NRCan says not to skip this. NRCan
- For an air-source unit that will be rebated in Yukon, a row on the Manitoba-and-Yukon cold-climate list. The row’s capacity maintenance at −15°C is at least 70 percent, COP at −15°C is at least 1.8, HSPF2 is at least 6.6, and SEER2 is at least 15.2. Criteria
- A balance point of −20°C or colder if you are filing Dependable Grid dual fuel, with oil, propane, or wood as backup. Terms
- The low-temperature cut-out for that model, from the manufacturer’s data, not from the family name.
- Whether the indoor side matches the house: ducted, multi-split, or both. A list row is a matched pair. Changing the indoor model voids the row.
Two units that both pass can still be far apart at −30°C. Compare their published capacity at the coldest temperature the manufacturer actually prints, against your heat loss at that temperature. The NRCan sizing toolkit is built for that comparison. Toolkit This guide does not award a winner. A ranked “best of 2026” list would be a sales page.
A pass is a row
The Manitoba-and-Yukon search is a database of matched systems, not a podium. This guide’s examples are Daikin and Moovair. The brand filters returned 868 DAIKIN rows and 189 MOOVAIR rows. That is why “Daikin” or “Moovair” is not an answer and “this AHRI number, with these two model numbers” is. List Wall matches from both brands are written out on the capacity page, with HSPF2, SEER2, COP at −15°C, and capacity maintenance taken from the rows. They clear the published bar. They are examples of how to read a pass. They are not a best-of list for 2026.
